Question:
What if I don’t speak English or Cantonese very well and I am shy about interacting with people from other cultures?

The camp and outreaches are designed to equip and mobilize persons from many nations who speak a wide variety of languages, into their God intended destiny. In fact the opportunity to interact with persons from so many different cultures is actually a rare privilege. One of the unique features of this camp and outreach program is that you can meet and make friends with persons from many other countries. Often, one strength of young people is their ability to overcome cultural, even language barriers and quickly learn other languages. If you’re shy, why not get along side someone that speaks your language and step out in faith together. As mentioned every effort will be made to provide translation during the combined sessions for the major language groups. You will certainly not be alone if you do not speak the dominate languages and your experience at Gateway will better equip you to successfully relate to peoples of all nations. This will probably prove to be a major key to your future success, what ever you do. Ask Jesus to help you over come your worries and join with many other young people who are seeking God’s highest for their lives. We pray that you will have a rewarding cross cultural experience that will serve you for the rest of your life.

Question:
How can I join a team as an individual or family?

1. If you have heard of a team that is planning to attend the Gateway Camp, you can contact them directly and ask if you can sign up with them. Each team will probably have their own criteria for acceptance. Direct communication will probably work best.
2. You can apply through the Outreach Section as an individual or family by requesting an individual sign up form for one of the outreach teams that is listed as open to individuals and or families.
3. You can email our office stating an aspect of outreach interest you may have that is not obvious in the Outreach Section and we will try and help you find a team that you can join. Please note Individual application forms including application forms for families are not available at this time on line. These will need to be sent to applicants in response to their individual email request.

Question:
Can I come to the Gateway Camp as an individual?

The Camp is designed for teams. However, there are some teams that individuals can apply to join. For information on outreach teams that are open to receive individuals and in some cases individual families, please refer to the Outreach section. These outreaches include football (soccer) and basketball teams, biking teams (including some that are open to families). This includes some local outreaches in Hong Kong. There are also some local and international teams that may have room for a few more young people to join them. Again please check the outreach section for more details on this. It will be necessary for everyone in the Gateway Camp to be a part of a team whether staff or camper. This is due to the fact that direction, instruction, processing, pastoral care and accountability will be provided for to a large extent through team leaders and team function.
