Question:
Do we need vaccines for HK and China?

Nothing special other than what’s required in your country (like Tuberculose)
Hepatitis is encouraged but not necessary. Do not take malaria pills unless your outreach contact tells you to. (unlikely…)

You can find more practical information to prepare a trip to China (also vaccinations, etc.) at : http://www.ctshk.com/english/useful/maps.htm

What about medical insurance?

We strongly recommend you get your own travel insurance before you come. Most of the time it’s cheaper when you apply as a group, or sometimes it comes with your travel package. Blue Cross Travel Insurance can be purchased through our partner agency Hikari International Travel. Blue Cross Travel insurance online brochure can be viewed at:
http://www.bluecross.com.hk/eng/products/travelsafe.htm

Note: All prices listed on the website for insurance will be discounted 20% by Hikari International Travel for Gateway Camp participants.
Please contact tim@hikari-interanational.com for procedures. Medical insurance is not provided by or through the Gateway Camp.

Visa for China & HK

Question:
Do we need a different visa for HK and China? For Macau? Should we get it before coming to HK?

Hong Kong is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China (PRC), the other being Macau. The territory lies on the eastern side of the Pearl River Delta, bordering Guangdong province in the north and facing the South China Sea in the east, west and south. Hong Kong was a dependent territory of the United Kingdom from 1842 until the transfer of its sovereignty to the People's Republic of China in 1997. Under the policy of "one country, two systems", the Central People's Government is responsible for the territory's defence and foreign affairs, while the Government of Hong Kong is responsible for its own legal system, police force, monetary system, customs policy, immigration policy, and delegates to international organisations and events.

Hong Kong, Macau and the People’s Republic of China have different immigration policies; therefore a specific visa is required for each of these regions. Most people do not need to apply for a visa for Macau and Hong Kong, but please check out if your country/territory is granted visa-free access:

arrow Visa for Macau SAR (if your service project is planned in Macau), check:
Visa free for Macau SAR

arrow Visa for China (if your service project is planned in Mainland China)
Please contact the Chinese Embassy in your country to apply for a Chinese Visa before coming to the Camp.
